YBLA’s project with the Downtown Women’s Center began as a way to donate the excess granny squares from CAFAM but soon took on a life of its own. YBLA worked with the Downtown Women’s Center for the past 5 months, developing a curriculum for teaching knitting through the creation of an ornament symbolizing home. YBLA and DWC’s collaboration culminated in an eye-catching installation during the November 14 DTLA Artwalk.
At the end of November, YBLA will also donate to DWC an estimated 30-40 granny square blankets created by crocheters who have attended outreach events at the Craft and Folk Art Museum, One Colorado Pasadena, Future Studio, and the Edward Sharpe Big Top.
